AMSP MATH :

Magnolia Science Academy  offers several advanced academic programs and clubs to students interested in Math and Science. AMSP , Advanced Math Science Program, is for advanced students in middle and high schools that aim to motivate them by challenging problems in advanced math topics while training them for prestigious national and international math competitions such MathCounts, MathLeague, American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), USA Math Olympiads, and International Math Olympiads.Early math and science training by experts ensures that students have the background
they need for higher education and careers in math and science. AMSP is a concentrated
training program that helps students to develop the critical and analytical thinking skills
within a challenging environment. Specifically, AMSP utilizes prestigious math and
science competitions at regional, national and international levels to motivate and train
students. Some of these competitions are:
· International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO)
· International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI)
· USA Math Olympiads (USAMO)
· USA Computing Olympiads (USACO)
· American Mathematics Competitions (AMC-8, AMC-10, AMC-12, AIME)
· MathCounts
· Math League
· Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS)
· Gauss League (Accord Institute’s Math Competition)
· ACCompete (Accord Institute’s Compute r Scie nce Competition)
· MathMatters AMSP Math lectures take a place during SSR period for 25 minutes and students have some amount of workload such homework, quizzes, practice and review tests. Instead of SSR-Sustained Silent Reading grade, students will be graded in AMSP regarding the turning in homework, participation and tests. Thus student should keep the motivation and responsibility throughout the program. There also could be invitations and withdrawals to establish a competitive learning environment with respect to a student’s performance and enthusiasm.AMSP organizes numerous fun activities such trips, camps as mentioned above, sleepovers etc.
Ø  Professional trainings and workshops for AMSP school team,
Ø  A comprehensive set of documents and materials: placement test, lecture notes, homework, quizzes, practice and review tests,
Ø  Online Knowledge Management System to follow-up the student progress, local and global statistics, and reports,
Ø  Throughout the year, nine extensive AMSP training camps specially designed to improve math and computer science levels of the students and team spirit.
Ø  Identifies students with potentials for early math and science training
Ø  Motivates and encourages talented students for academic studies Student selection involves the first 3 weeks after the school starts. AMSP team prepares a special test to measure students’ analytical reasoning, visual perception and understanding skills. At the end of the first week students take the test. Next two weeks, AMSP teachers observe and evaluate potential AMSP students identified by that test. At the end of three weeks, AMSP team determines the students considering the tests, background information, and the feedback received from AMSP teachers at the school.

In AMSP, there are eight camps throughout the year; 4 sleepovers, 2 regional camps, general winter and summer camps. All the contents of the camps are designed by AMSP team. Main goals of the camps are to improve and keep the motivation of the students in math and science as well as healthy development of the gifted students by providing advanced lectures with fun, team games and competition to develop team spirit, guest speakers well-known in the area of math and science competitions, former olympiad students to share their memories and advices, and indoor/outdoor activities for social development.
